Children’s Reading Tutors Organization: Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy

Number of Individuals Needed: 10 Volunteers

Job Description: One to One is a literacy program for elementary children (Grades 1-4) who will benefit from extra reading help. Volunteer tutors use simple reading strategies aimed at increasing each child’s self confidence and improve his or her fluency and comprehension.

Date of Event or Ongoing: On going – Start up in October 2016

Materials, skills, experience needed or other requirements: Volunteers complete a 4 hour training to provide strategies, tips and supports. All volunteers will complete a criminal record check.

Volunteers commit to reading one day per week for one to one and a half hours. Volunteers who require a more flexible schedule can sign up to become a substitute.

Substitutes are available to fill in when tutors are ill or on vacation.

The program runs during the school day from October through May.
